This doesn’t mean penis surgery isn’t a viable solution for various medical indications like e.g. a penile prosthesis in case of complete impotence (erectile dysfunction), circumcision in case of serious foreskin constriction (phimosis) but for enlagement only, there are less risky ways with good rewards as well. Responsible plastic surgeons only offer surgical penis enlargement for patients suffering from a very small penis or micro penis. In addition, there are only very few surgeons who have the skills and knowledge to safely perform this very special type of medical intervention.
“The majority of men who come in seeking penile enlargement are average,” says Lipshultz. “I just don’t think men have a realistic idea of what normal is. Hence they think that they are below normal when actually they’re average.” (For the record, the average erect penis measures 5.6 inches, according to research published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.)

Well, you are right – no pills or pump can increase penis size. But the thing is that men still use them and do you know why? Because of a hype and a believe. It can be a Placebo Effect or a real thing but men do feel more confided in bed when they use male enhancement products and it looks kike this is what matters at the end of the day. The more confident a man is the better it performs naked.
Panic is the anti-answer, so let’s end that now. Like any situation, this one demands some straight up facts, so let’s begin there. The first and most important fact is to forget what you’ve seen in photographs, in movies, or on the web. Based on a sample of 1,661 guys, the average self-reported erect penis length is 5.6 inches. Technically, according to the Mayo Clinic, a penis is not even considered small unless it measures less than three inches when erect.
Apart from the risks, penoplasty (surgical penile lengthening and girth enhancement) is the most expensive way for penile enhancement. According to About Health it ranges from $4000 up to $17000. If you are interested in surgical enhancement, we recommend reading the in-depth article on Medscape about possible surgical techniques and results. There is a less risky new method, the FDA-cleared Penuma implant developed by Dr. Elist (James Elist, MD) for flacid size enlargement, but the erect size lengthening is minimal and the cost is in the low five digits, too.
If you’re interested in how to make your penis bigger, you’re not alone. However, most men that seek penile elongation treatments actually have a normal penile size. If you worry about the size of your penis despite having adequate length, you could suffer from dysmorphophobia disorder (PDD) or small penis anxiety (SPA). Both of these disorders involve men underestimating the size of their penis while overestimating the average penis size for other men. PDD lies within the body dysmorphic disorder spectrum while SPA is an anxiety syndrome that’s pertinent to the genitals [38].
Other tips for preventing penis shrinkage such as stopping smoking and optimizing blood flow to the penis may not have a lot of studies to back them up, but we do know there’s a relationship between healthy blood flow and sexual health. Taking measures to maintain blood flow throughout the body, which includes quitting smoking, may not specifically prevent shrinkage but can promote overall sexual health and wellness.

“There are at least six major complications with penile jelqing and stretching that have been documented in the medical literature,” explains urologist James Elist, inventor of the only FDA-approved penis enlargement implant on the market. Unsurprisingly then, he’s not a fan of the techniques Big Al et al employ. “It may stretch the penis for awhile, but as soon as you let it go, it’s going to go back. So in the long-term, I don’t think it has any effect, but it does have major major side effects.” For example, he says, stretching penile skin continuously forms thick scar tissue around the penis like a condom under the skin, limiting how much it can expand. You can also permanently damage nerves, he adds, creating small tears in the penis that cause numbness and internal bleeding.
Is it effective? Yes and no. With a penis pump, your penis really does grow – noticeably so. However as soon as you release the vacuum, your penis goes right back to original size. There’s no evidence of long-term benefits, but they do have one advantage for sufferers of erectile dysfunction: since the vacuum draws blood into the penis, you can quickly roll on a gently constricting cockring after removing the pump, thereby ‘trapping’ the penis in an erect state. While some people who have tried this technique report positive findings, we suggest consulting a doctor first.
As I recently learned from Missouri State sociology professor Alicia M. Walker, men’s obsession with the diminutive size of their dicks can be debilitating. She’d spoken to numerous men who haven’t been to the doctor for a physical in a decade because they didn’t want to be naked in front of their doctor. Others had never approached someone for a romantic relationship because they didn’t believe anyone would be interested in them because of their penis size.
